The MKSS Samstha (Institution) was established in 1896 by “Bharat Ratna” Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve, who had a vision of providing shelter to destitute women and empowering them through education. The samstha, which is located in Hingane (Bk), has a history of 127 years of making women educated and self-reliant. Its aim is to create an educational environment of world-class standards that helps students to fully develop their abilities and fosters a strong bond of responsibility, morality, ethics and values among them.

The Institution that Prof. D. K. Karve founded in a village near Pune City called “Hingne” was initially known as “Hingne Stree Shikshan Samstha”. Later, it became “Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha”. The Institution aimed at uplifting, emancipating and educating women who were a major part of the socially oppressed. Maharshi Karve devoted his entire life to this humanitarian cause with great courage and determination. He received the highest National Civilian Award, “Bharat Ratna”, for his social work and sacrifice for the noble cause.
In addition to FCRA Registration, the organization was also registered as a ‘Society’ on 21 February 1949 and as a ‘Public Trust’, on 4 Nov. 1952 under Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950 with a Registration Number ‘F 51’.
The Institution that Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha, Pune runs has more than 35,000 girl students studying in its branches across Maharashtra in India. The Institution has expanded like a banyan tree over the last 127 years and now it operates 68 educational and other units under its umbrella. These units are located in Pune, Satara, Wai, Ratnagiri, Nagpur, Kamshet and Vasai. All these units are exclusively for girls or women. The Institution also provides hostel and medical facilities for students and working women and old age home for senior citizens.
The Institution offers education from Kindergarten to Higher Education Colleges. It runs higher education units such as Engineering, Architecture, Management, Nursing, Fashion Technology, Vocational Training Institute, Laser Technology & Applications, Jewelry Design, etc. It also plans to introduce courses like Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, laser technology, Automotive Mechatronics in the near future to keep up with the changing trends in the jobs market.
MKSSS strives hard to develop women into truly performing citizens in today’s globalization era.
